The Westmont Yard Sports Complex is an athletic and family recreation center offering a variety of youth sports programs. Whether your child wants to play football, lacrosse, or hockey, the facility has a program to meet their needs. Westmont Yard operates an after-school sports program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Kids can use the facility’s state-of-the-art indoor fields to play various sports, including baseball, soccer, and basketball. At the same time, these programs teach children important social development skills, such as teamwork.

Older children can enroll in one of the facility’s youth athletic leagues. A seven-on-seven football league focuses on the passing game, with no blocking or tackling allowed. Children in third grade through high school can join a team in their age group and play eight regular-season games plus playoffs. If you have a budding soccer star in the family, enroll them in one of the facility’s soccer leagues in the fall, winter, or spring. Westmont Yard also has a travel soccer league with boys and girls divisions. Teams play eight, 10, or 12 games throughout the season.

In addition to its athletic leagues and programs, Westmont Yard offers various sports amenities for families. Enroll your child in the facility’s spring break or summer sports camps, where kids spend a week learning to play different sports, such as handball, kickball, volleyball, and lacrosse. The facility also hosts birthday and group parties, where your child and their friends can play fun games on the sports field, such as relay races or dodgeball.

Westmont Park District

The Westmont Park District provides various athletic opportunities for active families in the Westmont area. Young kids can get a head start in one of the district’s early childhood athletics programs, which include soccer, flag football, T-ball, and junior basketball. Older kids can join one of the many youth leagues available through the park district. Some of these programs include junior golf, youth karate, girls’ fast-pitch softball, flag football, tennis, volleyball, and Taekwondo.

The Westmont Park District runs the Westmont Wolverines leagues for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. These leagues teach kids the fundamentals of sports while stressing the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. Westmont Wolverines programs include flag football, soccer, and girls’ softball. There are also two basketball leagues available for both boys and girls. Teams in the travel league play 20 regular-season games and participate in three to four tournaments throughout the season. The biddy basketball league is a coed league for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Teams have one practice and one game each week for eight weeks.

Lil’ Kickers

The national Lil’ Kickers franchise operates several programs in the Westmont area, including locations in La Grange and Lombard. These programs introduce young children to the game of soccer while helping them develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills. You can enroll your child in one of two classes. Lil’ Kickers classes are designed for children from 18 months to 9 years old. Classes meet weekly for 50 minutes and offer an age-appropriate curriculum, such as learning to kick a ball or focusing on balance and coordination. There’s a low child-to-coach ratio, so every kid receives quality support and attention.

For a greater emphasis on technical and tactical soccer skills, enroll your child in a Skills Institute class. These classes center on child development theory to help participants feel more confident in their athletic abilities. Children ages 5-12 can enroll in these classes, which meet weekly for 50 minutes. They participate in 30 minutes of instruction and 20 minutes of scrimmaging. Whichever class you choose for your child, the Lil’ Kickers program will help them learn new skills while having fun.

i9 Sports Association

The motto of the i9 Sports Association is “the way youth sports should be.” The organization, which has two locations in nearby Naperville, offers recreational sports leagues for boys and girls ages 3 and up in various areas, including flag football, soccer, baseball, and basketball. While teaching kids about skills and drills, coaches also strive to help them learn sportsmanship values.

The sports association focuses on providing age-appropriate instruction. Teams practice and play on the same day each week, which makes it a convenient option for busy families. There are no tryouts for any of the teams, and children of all skill levels are welcome to participate. In addition to sports leagues, the i9 Sports Association also offers various youth camps and clinics throughout the year.

Westmont Youth Baseball Association

Are you raising the next Sammy Sosa or Ron Santo? You’ll want to check out the Westmont Youth Baseball Association (WYBA). Founded in 1983, the WYBA runs multiple leagues each year for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 16, from T-ball through senior levels. Children in the T-ball and instructional leagues can choose their own teams, while older players participate in evaluations to determine their competitive levels. During the evaluation, a coach observes the player’s skills to decide which team they should join.

The WYBA regular season begins mid-April and runs through the end of June. The league holds practices and games at various parks and fields in Westmont. There’s also a Westmont Express league, which is a traveling baseball program focused on skills development. Teams practice from January through June and play 15 to 20 games in the spring. The WYBA also holds training clinics for various age groups throughout the year.
