Top 5 Ski Resorts Near Westmont,

As another winter begins, it’s time to dig the skis and ski poles out of the back of the closet, wax them up, and hit the slopes. Although northern Illinois isn’t known for being particularly hilly, there are some great ski resorts in the area. Four Lakes Alpine Snowsports

Four Lakes Alpine Snowsports is a popular ski and snowboard destination in Lisle, only 15 minutes from Westmont. With several slopes perfect for skiing or snowboarding, it’s a great location for skiers of all ages. Families, friends, or coworkers can have a great time playing in the snow together. It’s also a great birthday party idea for winter birthdays and group pricing is available.

For novice skiers, Four Lakes Ski & Snowboard School teaches students skiing and snowboarding. Group or private lessons are available. The school is a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America and has current methodologies taught by friendly, talented instructors. Reservations are required for instructional programs.

Villa Olivia Country Club

A half-hour drive from Westmont brings you to the beautiful Villa Olivia Country Club, which has a glorious ski lodge overlooking the slopes. Villa Olivia offers skiing, tubing, and snowboarding in this stunning setting. The manufactured snow allows the season to start early regardless of the natural snowfall, and rental equipment is available. With seven runs, a chairlift, and rope tows, the ski hill can keep an avid skier entertained for hours. The club also offers private, semi-private, and group lessons.

Villa Olivia promotes a variety of special events over the winter season like Sunday Family Fun Nights, with special packages for night skiing, ski or snowboard rental, or group beginner lessons. Another special training is the Friday Learn-to-Turn nights, where 7 p.m. evening instruction teaches specifically how to turn on skis or a snowboard.

For grab-and-go food, the Villa Olivia Ski Cafe has a variety of quick menu items. The cafe serves many snacks and desserts like french fries, nachos, cookies, and muffins. For meals, entrees like a pizza or delicious chili will fill you up, and burgers and hot dogs are available as well. Drinks include hot chocolate, coffee, soda, and beer. Gatorade is also sold for those who need a boost of energy or electrolytes to keep going on the ski hills.

Wilmot Mountain

One of the earliest ski resorts in the Midwest to master the art of making snow, Wilmot Mountain is a ski resort that’s been operating for over 70 years. Allowing snow sports regardless of the unpredictable winter weather in the area, it quickly became a very popular skiing destination on the Wisconsin/Illinois border. 

Found just over an hour north of Westmont, this convenient location offers skiing, snowboarding, lessons, and tubing. Wilmot has an impressive tubing hill with 22 lanes over 1,000 feet long. Surface conveyor lifts conveniently take you and your tube back to the top of the hill after the thrilling ride.

The Ski Hill Grill restaurant has a spacious dining area and features scratch-made pizza, hot dogs, soup, and sandwiches, as well as the delicious Wisconsin specialty, deep-fried cheese curds. A smaller concession stand at the tubing hill offers hot chocolate, pizza on the weekends, and wine and beer for adults.

Vail manages Wilmot Mountain and features Epic pass, a season pass that’s good at all 34 Vail resorts including Rockies locations like Vail, Breckenridge, and Park City, along with various resorts all over the U.S. In addition to season passes, one- to seven-day ski passes are available, which also provide access to all 34 Vail resorts.

Mountain Top at Grand Geneva

If it’s time for a weekend getaway, you can head up to the Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, only 90 minutes north of Westmont. The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva features over 20 downhill ski runs in various difficulty ratings on over 30 acres of property. The resort’s snowmaking capabilities allow the ski season to start in December regardless of the snowfall. Three chairlifts and two carpet lifts are available for skiers.

Skiing and snowboarding lessons are also available, and all equipment is available for rental. Snowshoe rentals are available as well. If you need to purchase any equipment, the Snow Sport Shop will have what you need.

After skiing, warm up in the luxurious Leinenkugel’s Mountain Top Lodge in front of a roaring fire, then schedule a massage at the WELL Spa & Salon onsite. Guests staying at the Grand Geneva can take a trolley from the resort to the ski hill.

Alpine Valley Resort

The beautiful Alpine Valley Resort is another ideal location for a weekend ski getaway near Westmont. Featuring over 100 acres of ski area and 20 runs, the longest of which is 3,000 feet, there’s plenty of space to play. Terrain ranges from beginner to expert level, and the highest slope allows a vertical drop of 388 feet. With amenities including four triple chairlifts, two rope tows, five magic carpets, and a snow carousel, there’s not a lot of waiting time. Alpine Valley also has snowmaking capabilities in case Mother Nature isn’t cooperating.

Alpine Valley Resort offers lessons from beginner to advanced levels for both skiing and snowboarding. Rentals are available for skis and snowboarding equipment. There’s also an onsite ski shop to stock up on anything you may have forgotten like skis, boots, hats, or snow pants. A casual indoor cafe offers pizza, snacks, and hot beverages, or you can enjoy dinner in the Alpine Dining Room.
